UAANT Celebrates Culture and Unity at The Joy of Many Colours

Celebrating culture and unity

The Ukrainian community proudly participated in The Joy of Many Colours Multicultural Festival at Netball Northern Territory in Marrara on Saturday, 4 July 2026.

It was a joyful opportunity to celebrate who we are, share our traditions, and take our place in the rich cultural life of the Northern Territory. UAANT members modelled traditional Ukrainian dress in the fashion and cultural parade, while our volunteers offered festival visitors a taste of Ukraine through traditional cuisine, including handmade varenyky.

Traditional clothing carries the history, creativity, and identity of generations. Seeing Ukrainian dress represented in the festival parade allowed the wider Darwin community to experience some of that beauty and meaning.

Food created another kind of connection. At the Ukraine table, visitors gathered to try our dishes, ask questions, and spend time with members of our community. These simple conversations around a shared meal are how new friendships begin and how a multicultural city becomes a genuine community.

UAANT extends its heartfelt thanks to every community volunteer who cooked, prepared, modelled, served, organised, photographed, and supported our participation. Your time and care made Ukraine visible, welcoming, and memorable throughout the festival.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to the Australian Red Cross and the organising partners — the Northern Territory Government, Connected Women, TCASS, and the Migrant Workers Hub — for creating this wonderful opportunity for communities to share their cultures and celebrate together.

The day was a beautiful reminder that diversity makes the Northern Territory stronger. We were proud to represent Ukraine and grateful to everyone who celebrated with us. 💛💙
