Our Projects: Support, Connection, and Culture

UAANT’s projects grow from the real needs of Ukrainians living in Darwin and across the Northern Territory. We bring together volunteers, partner organisations, and community members to support people, create opportunities for connection, and keep Ukrainian culture strong far from home.

Helping New Arrivals

The first months in Australia can be challenging. New arrivals may need to find housing and employment, understand the healthcare system, organise documents, and adjust to an unfamiliar environment at the same time.

UAANT shares reliable information, helps people identify appropriate services, and, where possible, connects them with community organisations and qualified professionals. An important partner in this work is Melaleuca Australia, which provides professional settlement support in the Northern Territory.

Information and Professional Referrals

We help people understand where to find official information and qualified advice. When a question concerns visas, migration law, healthcare, or another specialist area, UAANT does not replace a qualified professional. We direct people to the relevant government service, registered migration agent, lawyer, or healthcare practitioner.

This approach helps community members avoid unreliable advice and make decisions based on trustworthy information.

Psychological Wellbeing and Community Support

War, forced displacement, and separation from loved ones can lead to anxiety, loneliness, and emotional exhaustion. UAANT helps people stay connected to community and find information about professional support services.

We are not a medical or crisis service, but we can listen, help people connect with other Ukrainians, and point them towards appropriate assistance.

Ukrainian Culture and Shared Traditions

Culture stays alive when it is shared. UAANT organises Christmas and Easter gatherings, marks Ukraine’s Independence Day, supports cultural events, and creates spaces where children and adults can speak Ukrainian, learn about traditions, and remain connected to their heritage.

Our activities also welcome friends of Ukraine and members of other Northern Territory communities. This helps preserve Ukrainian heritage while making it visible and accessible to the wider Australian community.

UAANT holds community consultations, gathers questions and feedback, and communicates shared needs to government bodies, community organisations, and national Ukrainian organisations.
