Where Ukraine Meets the Top End
UAANT is the Ukrainian community organisation for Darwin and the Northern Territory. We help Ukrainians find each other, keep culture visible, and make it easier for new arrivals to build a life here.
Why We Exist
Darwin is far from Ukraine, and far from the larger Ukrainian communities in Sydney and Melbourne. That distance matters. A small community has to be practical: someone knows where to find a translator, someone has a contact for a rental, someone can explain a school form, someone can bring borshch to an event and make a newcomer feel less alone.
That is the kind of association UAANT aims to be: useful, welcoming, and easy to reach.
What We Are
We are a volunteer-led, not-for-profit association. Our members include Ukrainians who have lived in Australia for years, families who arrived recently, people with Ukrainian heritage, and local friends who stand with Ukraine.
What We Do
We organise community events, cultural celebrations, information sessions, and practical support. We help newcomers connect with services, schools, employers, and other Ukrainians in the NT. We also create public moments where Darwin can learn more about Ukraine beyond the headlines.
Christmas, Easter, Independence Day, language, food, music, embroidery, fundraising, advocacy - these are not separate projects for us. They are how a community stays alive.
Where We Stand
UAANT supports a free, independent Ukraine. We reject Soviet nostalgia and the Putin narrative that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a tragedy to be reversed.
Our friends are people who respect Ukraine's sovereignty and understand that peace cannot mean Ukrainian surrender. We work with local organisations, volunteers, and supporters who share that basic position.
Join Us
Whether you arrived yesterday, have been here for decades, or simply want to support Ukraine, you are welcome to get involved.
Come to an event. Volunteer for a project. Bring an idea. Introduce yourself. Small communities work because people do.
