Chief Minister Recognises UAANT on Ukrainian Day of Unity 2026

Celebrating Ukrainian unity in Darwin

On 22 January 2026, the Ukrainian-Australian community in the Northern Territory marked the Ukrainian Day of Unity — a day that honours the unity of Ukraine and the enduring strength of Ukrainians everywhere.

This year, UAANT was deeply honoured to receive warm greetings from the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Lia Finocchiaro MLA. Her letter recognised the resilience and solidarity of the Ukrainian people and acknowledged the work of the Ukrainian-Australian Association of Northern Territory in building connection, celebrating heritage, and supporting our community in Darwin.

Recognition that matters

The Chief Minister highlighted UAANT's contribution through support for newcomers, cultural exchange, workshops, and community events. This recognition belongs to every volunteer, member, partner, and friend who has helped create a welcoming home for Ukrainians in the Northern Territory.

It means a great deal to see Ukrainian traditions and our shared values of freedom, resilience, solidarity, and unity recognised here in the Territory. The greeting is also a reminder that Ukrainian culture has become a valued part of Darwin's wider multicultural community.

Together, we are stronger

The Ukrainian Day of Unity commemorates the declaration of the Act of Unification in 1919, when Ukrainian lands proclaimed their intention to unite as one independent state. More than a century later, its message remains urgent: Ukrainians are strongest when they stand together, wherever they live.
