The blue and yellow in the heart of Darwin
On Saturday, 23 August 2025, members and friends of UAANT gathered at Parliament House in Darwin to mark the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine.
The blue-and-yellow flag represents Ukraine's identity, unity, dignity, and freedom. Displaying it in the centre of Darwin was both a celebration of Ukrainian culture and a visible expression of solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
The gathering also reflected the friendship between communities in the Northern Territory. Ukrainian, Latvian, Lithuanian, and Australian flags were held together, reminding us that freedom, national identity, and mutual support connect people across borders.
A flag carried by every generation
Children and adults stood together beneath the Ukrainian flag. Moments like this help younger generations understand what our national symbols mean and allow Ukrainian identity to remain visible and strong far from home.
Ukraine's National Flag Day is observed every year on 23 August. It is followed on 24 August by the separate national holiday, Independence Day of Ukraine. In 2025, UAANT marked both dates through community gatherings in Darwin.
