About this event
Ukraine Independence Day falls on Monday, 24 August 2026. This year, UAANT will bring the community together one day earlier, on Sunday, 23 August, so families, workers, volunteers, and friends can celebrate without the pressure of a Monday working day.
Our Ukraine Independence Day celebration will begin at 5:00 pm at Darwin Sailing Club in Fannie Bay. Join us for an evening of Ukrainian culture, friendship, community connection, and solidarity with Ukraine.
The same date is also Ukraine's National Flag Day. Read the separate National Flag Day event page for the meaning of the blue-and-yellow flag and details of that observance.
Baltic Way gathering before our celebration
Sunday, 23 August is also the anniversary of the Baltic Way. Before our Independence Day celebration, we encourage our community to stand with our Latvian friends at their gathering near Parliament House in Darwin at 3:30 pm. UAANT will be there.
The Baltic Way gathering is expected to finish at about 4:30 pm. Members of the Latvian community will then join us at Darwin Sailing Club for the Ukraine Independence Day celebration at 5:00 pm. We are grateful to share these important occasions and to support one another. How good it is to have friends!
