Ukrainian Easter Divine Liturgy in Darwin 2026

Christ is risen!

On Sunday, 12 April 2026, Darwin's Ukrainian community came together at Holy Spirit Parish in Wanguri for a joyful Easter Divine Liturgy celebrated in Ukrainian.

For people living so far from Ukraine, hearing the familiar prayers and Easter proclamation in our native language made the church feel like a true piece of home. Families, children, elders, and friends prayed together and shared the joy and hope of Christ's Resurrection.

A pastoral visit from Perth

We offer our heartfelt thanks to Father Ihor (Holovko), a Ukrainian Greek Catholic priest who travelled from Perth to lead the service. His pastoral visit gave our community a rare and deeply valued opportunity to worship according to the Ukrainian Byzantine tradition in Darwin.

Father Ihor's dedication helps Ukrainian Greek Catholics across the vast distances of Western Australia and the Northern Territory remain connected to their faith, language, and church tradition. We are deeply grateful for the journey, care, and time he shared with our community.

Faith, language, and community

The Divine Liturgy was more than a church service. It brought generations together, helped children hear Ukrainian in a sacred setting, and gave newly arrived families a sense of familiarity and belonging. In prayer and song, the community carried forward traditions remembered from home while creating new Easter memories here in Darwin.
