A Ukrainian Phone Number That Works in Australia

Virtual phone numbers are not limited to Ukrainian numbers or to use in Australia. They can help people keep a familiar local number while living or travelling in another country. This article shares one practical example from the UAANT community.

For Ukrainians living abroad, staying connected with home is not always as simple as making a WhatsApp or Viber call.

Some relatives, especially older family members, are more comfortable calling an ordinary Ukrainian mobile number. A Ukrainian number can also be useful when communicating with banks, government services and other organisations back home.

At UAANT, community members help one another by sharing useful knowledge and first-hand experience. Maksym Vasylkov uses Zadarma himself and shared this option so it may help others who need a Ukrainian number while overseas.

Ukrainian virtual mobile numbers are available with the prefixes +380 63, +380 73 and +380 93. They can receive calls through the Zadarma app while their owner is in Australia or elsewhere. For relatives in Ukraine, it works like calling a Ukrainian mobile number, while the recipient answers over the internet without international roaming charges.

What it currently costs

At the time of publication, Zadarma advertises:

• US$1 to connect a Ukrainian mobile number (approximately A$1.40);
• US$2 per month when paid annually (approximately A$2.80); and
• US$25 in total for the first year (approximately A$35).

AUD equivalents use an indicative rate of US$1 ≈ A$1.41 on 13 August 2026 and are rounded. Exchange rates, prices, available number prefixes and service conditions can change, so please check the amount shown at checkout before purchasing.

What you need

Zadarma currently asks applicants to:

1. provide a passport or identity card copy;
2. complete automatic identity verification, or provide the requested verification photograph; and
3. specify a current address in Ukraine, including the city, street, number and postcode.

If additional proof of a Ukrainian address is requested, older paper passports may contain a registered address. People with newer documents can obtain an electronic extract confirming their registered place of residence through Diia.

Calls are answered over the internet using the Zadarma mobile or desktop app. Zadarma states that incoming calls to its virtual numbers are free, although internet usage and any charge from the caller's provider may still apply. SMS reception requires identity verification and prepayment for at least three months.

An important limitation

This service will not suit every situation. Some banks and online services may not accept virtual numbers for verification or security messages. Confirm this with the relevant institution before buying a number, particularly if access to a bank account or pension depends on it. A reliable internet connection is also required to receive calls.
