Our Work: Where Words Become Action
In Ukrainian, there is a word that captures what we do: дієслово — action, movement, doing. UAANT exists not merely to talk about community, but to build it, one handshake, one helping hand, one family helped at a time.
Opening Doors for Newcomers
Every Ukrainian who arrives in the Northern Territory faces a maze of paperwork, procedures, and processes that can feel overwhelming — especially when you have left everything familiar behind. Our visa assistance program walks alongside families through every step of their journey, translating confusion into clarity, fear into confidence.
We help with:
- Navigating the complexities of humanitarian visa applications
- Connecting with registered migration agents who understand Ukrainian circumstances
- Understanding your rights and responsibilities under Australian law
- Building the documentation needed to start fresh
Finding Your Feet
A new country is a new world. Finding somewhere to live, learning to navigate public transport, understanding how Australian banking and healthcare works — these are the foundations upon which new lives are built. Our settlement services provide the scaffolding that helps families transform from newcomers into confident residents.
From helping obtain a driver's license (that essential document of Australian independence) to connecting you with rental properties and local services, we ensure no one has to face the challenges alone.
Holding On to What Matters
We believe that to truly thrive in a new country, you must first feel at home with who you are. Our cultural programs ensure that Ukrainian identity remains vibrant and alive in the Northern Territory.
We organize celebrations throughout the year — Christmas with its twelve dishes, Easter with its blessed pysanky, Independence Day with its blue and yellow pride — keeping our traditions alive not as museum pieces, but as living, breathing parts of our community life.
Language workshops help children speak with their grandparents, help adults maintain the words of their mothers, help everyone stay connected to the homeland that lives in their hearts.
Standing Together in Difficult Times
Life in exile has its own challenges. When families struggle — with isolation, with grief for what was left behind, with the psychological weight of displacement — we are there.
Our support network provides a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, connections to professional psychological support, and most importantly — the knowledge that you are not alone in your struggle.
Your Voice in the Territory
Advocacy is more than a word to us — it is a responsibility. We represent Ukrainian interests to local, territory, and federal government, ensuring that decision-makers understand our community's needs and that our voices are heard in the rooms where policies are shaped.
From petitions for permanent residency pathways to submissions on multicultural policy, we work to create a political environment that supports Ukrainians in building lasting futures in Australia.
Get Involved
None of this happens without people like you. Whether you have time to volunteer, resources to donate, or simply a willingness to stand with our community, there is a place for you in our work.
